There’s no better time to kick off a new blog about transitioning and sharing the transgender experience than during Trans Awareness Week, right?! I’m Erica and this is my new blog “Erica Forever After.”
As discussed in my About me page, my mission is to help inspire others by sharing my experiences and positivity. If not for the other brave souls that transitioned before me and decided to open up about their story I would still believe I was alone in this experience.
Awareness is key to dispelling the ignorance that surrounds transgender experiences and perspectives, which ultimately leads to the mistreatment that many of us face day in and day out. Personally, becoming more aware of the transgender experience was the first step in a long journey that lead me to where I am today.
Trans Awareness Week in 2018 is from November 12th until the 19th. This leads up to November 20 being Trans Day of Remembrance, where we remember those that experienced extreme acts of violence due to transphobia. I plan to release one post per day during the week, each one focusing on a different aspect of awareness regarding the transgender community.
It is my hope that through my story I can connect with both trans and cisgender people, and in shedding light on the various aspects that come with being transgender it will help normalize the entire experience. Please see below for the links to the various posts in this series! I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy sharing.
